Flying Girl Off the Path, or I May Wander But I Am Not Lost

Flying Girl Off the Path, or I May Wander But I Am Not Lost
3//16/09
Golden Fluid Acrylic on Watercolor Paper, 7"x10"

I worked on this painting all weekend. I had ideas in my head, but none of them came clear. Maybe I had too many ideas. I don't know, but the images did not come out. I painted over this about five times.

And it was so ugly. Oh my it was ugly.

That's when I realized I just had to let go and trust that the process would create something worthy.

The quote popped into my head.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost.
-J.R.R. Tolkien

It fit the painting. It fit the process. Perhaps it also fits my life, in this spot of life where I am trying to figure out how this all fits together.

In the end, I like the painting. I like the orange flowers and the wishes flying over the hills... I assume those wishes are leading her on to the clearer road, where the horizon can be seen, and the sky is boundless.

It's fun to wander. We learn more about ourselves in the search. I love how the flying girls convey such a sense of woman empowerment. You paint them in such a way that they are so free and directed. I think I'll have to buy another to put in my little girl's room. It's a great self-esteem boost for girls!

Rowena, I am just sitting back and taking this all in and planning my creative time for the first week in April when I have spring break.

I went out and bought the really nice watercolor paper and the frames for the paintings I have planned.

I long to be as creative as you in your art. I love the daily visit to your blog.

Thank you!

She is one of my favorites, from her curly hair to her flowery dress! The sentiment is even better. There is so much hope in this one..Great work!

Rowena, I do not even know where to begin. I do enjoy each post I read and your thoughts behind them but am so behind on the comments. This quote is great (you lit-chicks have an advantage) I feel like I need that quote tatooed on my forehead so people "get me". The one thing I have noticed lately is how your color combinations are getting fabulous.

I have spent a good deal of my life waiting to be found, thinking I was lost. Maybe it is time to just embrace the happy wandering.
Thank you.
